Environmental Manager - Santos Ltd

Santos is a leading Australian oil and gas exploration & production company with interests and operations in every major Australian petroleum province and in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan and Egypt. We are Australia's largest domestic gas producer, supplying sales gas to all mainland Australian states and territories, ethane to Sydney, and oil and liquids to domestic and international customers.  Due to continuing growth in our new ventures in Coal Seam Gas we have the need for an Environmental Manager.

Reporting to the Manager Commercial for Energy projects your primary responsibility is to manage and achieve regulatory and environmental approvals for the NSW Gunnedah region.  As the Environmental manager you will be expected to have a strategic approach that is aligned with the CSG business plan and to lead, advise, and assist with the management of the relationships with relevant government agencies, external and internal stakeholders in a way that enhances Santos, and CSG reputation in the areas of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities

General

  • To provide leadership to the CSG Environment function inclusive of the establishment of an effective and sustainable team of  committed professionals
  • To ensure the achievement of all environmental approvals for the Gunnedah project and other CSG developments
  • To ensure the establishment and implementation of appropriate controls and processes for environmental compliance across the GLNG project and all CSG activities

Gunnedah Part 3 A Process

  • Achieve the delivery of the EIS submission in support of the GLNG project.
  • Achieve all subsequent GLNG approvals through to Project FID
  • Effectively engage and manage contract engineering consultants and other contract personnel as required to meet objectives.

Capability and Compliance

  • Ensure the conduct of audits and assessments on relevant activities to measure conformance against management systems and policies
  • Develop and oversee environmental resources within project and operations teams to ensure environmental standards are built into the project at an early stage of project development and that compliance with all EA conditions is ensured once operations commence
  • Establish systems supporting continuous compliance monitoring

Relationship Management

  • Ensure there is a coordinated and consistent interaction and engagement with the relevant authorities by all teams in support of the project.
  • Actively contribute to and participate in relevant industry group
  • Review and contribute professional advice and strategy responses to any relevant proposed legislative and regulatory changes in the environment space impacting on CSG projects
  • Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate legislators, regulators and other community stakeholders in support of Company initiatives.

Essentially you will have a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent.  The ideal candidate will have proven experience and background in the environmental sector with relevant regulatory approvals and compliance experience (a mix of government and commercial experience is desirable). Supervisory and management level experience is essential.  This is a senior, rewarding and challenging role and a strategic approach is essential to managing the business needs of the Commercial and CSG departments along with key stakeholder management with government and environmental groups.
