Rio Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA) is one of Australia's leading mining organizations with a highly successful record in developing and managing world-class open cut and underground coal operations.  As part of the way we work, we seek to build enduring relationships with all of our communities that are characterized by mutual respect, active partnership and long term commitment.
RTCA produces approx 50 Mt per annum of export and domestic coal from various mine sites across QLD & NSW.  RTCA operates three open cut and one underground operation in central Queensland and three open cut coal mines in the Hunter Valley of NSW.
The HSE division provides support to operations in all aspects of HSE management but specifically systems, compliance, improvement initiatives and reporting. This includes environmental management, gaining of mining approvals, closure planning, management of mining tenements and landholdings and management of workers compensation.
Reporting to the Environmental Specialist Operations, you will provide corporate and operational environmental support to RTCA's Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) and Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW), to maintain compliance with legal requirements and Rio Tinto standards.
Key accountabilities in this role include coordinating and producing corporate environmental reports and internal environmental audits, coordinating the Ground Disturbance Permit process and providing operational support to site Environmental Coordinators..
Working within a strong team environment, you will have the opportunity to work across two large sites. The team structure provides opportunities to gain experience across all environmental accountabilities and to develop your career.
To be successful in this role you will have relevant degree qualifications in environmental science, management or engineering and experience in an environmental role preferably within the mining industry.  Knowledge of ISO14001 certified Environmental Management Systems and NSW environmental legislation and statutory approvals will be highly regarded. You will display proven experience in reporting and data analysis, as well as competency using GIS and Microsoft packages. An ability to communicate at all levels and a strong team ethic will ensure your success in the role.
